Engaged!
On November 18, 2004, I asked Sarah to marry me. Sarah's hand with her engagement ring
And she said yes!

Several weeks ago, we went engagement ring shopping together. We found a unique ring that we both liked immensely. Click for larger picture The ring is a "tension ring." There is no actual setting for the diamond. The stone is held in place by up to 90 pounds of pressure, allowing a beautiful, unobscured view of the diamond.

Since each ring is custom made for the particular diamond and finger involved, we had to order the ring and wait for it to be delivered. Even though Sarah knew that a proposal was forthcoming, I still had the element of surprise since she would not know when the ring actually arrived.

I wanted to present Sarah with her ring in some unique fashion. I came up with the idea of an "altered book." I first heard of "altered books" when shopping with Sarah for scrapbooking supplies. Taking an old, unwanted book, you "alter" it creatively by tearing away pages, gluing pages together, making niches, adding pictures, adding quotes, painting, rubber stamping... anything your creative mind can come up with. Sarah's ring hidden inside the book

When I had finished my project, I told Sarah that I had been working on an arts and crafts gift for her. I gave her the book, and she thought it was very cute and clever, but she suspected nothing. When she reached the last page of the book, she found a flap hiding a niche. When she lifted the flap, her ring was inside.

Proposal She was completely surprised! I took the ring out, got down on one knee, and asked Sarah to marry me. Even though we both knew this day was coming, it was very emotional for both of us. But there was no doubt. Sarah said yes and made me very, very happy.
We have set no wedding date yet. We are going to wait until some other aspects of our future are worked out before planning a wedding. We are in no hurry though... we know we have the rest of our lives together.

We'd love to hear from you.
