At Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida, there is a magic place with friendly dragons, talking owls,
singing flowers and wise-cracking mushrooms. A place where princesses seek adventure and knights seek bravery. This wondrous place is the Land of the Dragons!
The Land of the Dragons is also the location of my new show: Friends Forever.
I play Robin, a fledgling knight fresh out of "Knight School." While on a quest, I get separated from my dog, Lucky. My search for him leads me to the Land of the Dragons where I meet Stephanie, a princess more interested in adventure than fairy tale clichés.
This Land of the Dragons truly is a magical place. In addition
to the Princess, I also meet Mr. Owl ("Who? Who?"), a trio of harmonizing
flowers ("La la la la...") and the comic duo of the land: Bob and Shorty the mushrooms ("What are you laughing at?" "Nothing, I'm just a fungi!")
When I think that all hope of finding my dog is lost, the Princess convinces me (with the help of the singing flowers) that with her friendship and help, together we will be able to find Lucky.
However, I am still concerned because I have lost Lucky in the "Land of the Dragons,"
and my Dragon Class taught me that dragons have "enormous, razor sharp teeth, and they breathe fire, and they smell terrible, and, worst of all, they eat knights and dogs!" But, as it turns out, Princess Stephanie is friends with a kind-hearted, fun-loving dragon named Dumphrey! She introduces me to Dumphrey, and he assures me that instead of eating knights, he'd rather be "toasting marshmallows." We instantly become friends as well!
Dumphrey, Princess Stephanie and I realize that, if the three of us work together, we will have a much better chance of finding my dog Lucky. With the help of the audience, we begin our search for Lucky.
The search is not as easy as we would hope though.
Lucky is fast and elusive and, despite the audience's glimpses of him racing back and forth across the stage, he stays just beyond our grasp.
But, just when we are about to give up all hope, Lucky suddenly appears in the knot hole of a tree and leaps into my arms! Knight and dog reunited at last!
I am very grateful to Princess Stephanie
and Dumphrey the Dragon for their help in finding Lucky, and we all learned that, despite what we may have heard about knights and princesses and dragons, it is our differences that make us so special and when we work together, we can achieve anything!
Busch Gardens' new show Friends Forever is a delightful new production, and it is a show unlike anything the theme park has attempted before. It combines live actors with costumed characters, puppets, and a real dog. These elements combine to create a delightful, fun, musical show that is entertaining for both kids and their parents.
I am having a wonderful time doing the show. It is a treat to get back to my roots doing children's theatre, and it has been a whole new challenge (but a rewarding one) being the show's animal trainer as well. The show is being very well received, by the audiences as well as by the Busch Gardens' powers-that-be. I am very proud to be part of this show.
