Our friend, Carrie, threw a Halloween party... and at the last minute, Sarah and I decided to attend. Because our decision to go was so spontaneous, we hadn't prepared any Halloween costumes.
Sarah had a set of cat ears and a tail, so she was able to put together a black cat costume. What was I going to do though? Where was I going to be able to quickly find a ready-to-go costume? Maybe some make-up? Some funny shoes, perhaps?
Of course! I could pull out my old clown costume and make-up from my years as a clown
with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus! Even though it had been almost two years since I had last put on my clown make-up, it felt like no time had gone past at all. It felt so second-nature and normal to be putting my clown make-up on again.
Our costumes were a hit at the party. And the other party-goers could tell that my make-up was not a mere amateur attempt at being a clown. My many years being a clown with the Circus became a central topic of conversation all evening. It was fun reminiscing about my clown career.
The Circus was such a big part of my life for so long and being a clown defined who I was for so many years.
Sarah and I had a good time at the party and were glad that we decided to go. Happy Halloween!!
