Virginia Living Museum
David & Sarah at the Virginia Living Museum On one of our rare days off together, Sarah and I paid a visit to the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News. The museum gives visitors the chance to explore the scenery and wildlife of Virginia all in one beautiful setting.

A Turtle The Virginia Living Museum took us from the Chesapeake Bay to a cypress swamp to a cascading mountain waterfall and to the underground world of a limestone cave.

A deer The highlight of our visit, though, was an stroll along the 3/4-mile elevated boardwalk. The weather was perfect for being outdoors, and we got to see lots of animals in natural habitats.

A beaver A coyote
A sleeping skunk We saw beavers and raccoons and wolves and eagles and bobcats A wild turkey and deer and wild turkeys and opossums and skunks and coyotes and foxes.

And I was, of course, delighted to see my favorite animal there: a river otter! My favorite: the river otter! When we first came to the river otter habitat, he was asleep. But we stopped back by for a glimpse before departing, and the otter was active and swimming and playful and delightful to watch! I could've watched him all day... but the museum was closing.

Sarah & David the Turtle Sarah and I really did have a wonderful day at the Virginia Living Museum. Not only was the museum beautiful and enjoyable, but it was also a treat to get to spend time with each other away from work.
