Getting Married!
With Sarah's and my rather spontaneous decision to return to Florida around the end of February, it sent the rest of our life into a whirlwind. As if planning a sudden move and looking for a Florida apartment from Ohio wasn't enough, we decided to try and plan a wedding as well!

Knowing that we probably wouldn't be able to get a break from work for at least a year, Judge we decided that we wanted to get married before we left. Our original thought was just to visit the courthouse and have a judge marry us, but my father (who is an attorney and former judge) said his judge friend could come perform the ceremony anywhere we wanted.

So we decided to plan a small wedding! Just a small ceremony for our families. We chose February 18th, 2006, as a date. That gave us just about a month to organize a wedding. Now all we had to do was find a place to hold the ceremony!

Taverna Opa My father suggested a nearby restaurant, Taverna Opa, as a good location to hold the ceremony. The greek restaurant has a wonderful upstairs space with room for the small wedding and a reception following. We met with the owner - a friend of the family - to reserve the date and make arrangements.

Now we had a place to have the wedding. It was time to deal with the other details.

Flowers! Sarah needed a bouquet. I needed a boutonniere. Parents and grandparents needed corsages and boutonnieres. The space for the ceremony needed some wedding-ish touches. Cala lily So Sarah and I met with a local florist to make arrangements with them. We ordered a cala lily bouquet for Sarah and a cala lilly boutonniere for me. We ordered flowers for the parents. We ordered candelabras for the space, and we ordered a unity candle arrangement for the ceremony. Flowers were taken care of!

On to the cake! Wedding cake Sarah did some research online, and we made contact with a woman who did wedding cakes. She met us at our home to show us examples, taste some samples (yum!) and discuss our design. We decided we wanted something whimsical and fun, and chose a "mad hatter" cake with tiers angled askew to each other. One tier would be striped, the other polka dotted. The cake itself would be French Vanilla and Golden Yellow.

Kermit & Miss Piggy Wedding Cake Topper And that took care of the cake. Sarah was taking care of our cake topper herself which was, of course... a Kermit and Miss Piggy cake topper! By repainting and accessorizing Miss Piggy and Kermit action figures, Sarah was helping guarantee that this small wedding would have our personality and sense of fun.

So all of the details seem to be falling into place. With a few more additions like music and table decorations, our wedding would become a reality.

By the time Sarah and I leave for Florida on February 20th, we will be husband and wife!

Husband and Wife!
