It has been nearly seven months since I first injured my knee and tore my ACL. About five months ago, I had surgery done to replace the ligament with a tendon from my knee, and I have been in physical therapy ever since.
Three days a week I have been going to physical therapy to restore my range of motion and to re-build my strength. When not at therapy, I have been exercising at home as well.
On November 29th, I had an isokinetic test done on my knee. A machine and computer measure the strength of the injured knee by comparing it to the strength of the uninjured knee.
A few days later, on December 3rd, I returned to my doctor with the results of my isokinetic test. The strength of my injured leg was only at about 50% of the strength of my good leg.
Upon reviewing my test results, my doctor made the
decision to keep me away
from work and in physical therapy for another two months. As frustrating and disappointing as that is, I understand the need to restore my strength to avoid doing further damage to my knee by returning to work prematurely.
So, I am trying to remain positive, and I will
continue to work to strengthen my knee. I will continue to go to physical therapy. I am going to start bike riding again. And I am going to begin jogging. And when I see the doctor again in two months, I am determined to be rehabilitated and ready for work!
