The weekend after Thanksgiving, Sarah and I took my two oldest nieces - Becca (6) and Abby (3) - to see Sesame Street Live. I don't know who was more excited to see the Sesame Street characters live onstage, the kids or the grown-ups!
The production we saw was Elmo's Coloring Book. Elmo and his Sesame Street friends meet Professor Art and his assistants, the Palettes,
who take the gang on an adventure into their drawings of ancient Egypt, the land of the dinosaurs, and a musical junkyard. But something goes wrong when someone begins stealing the colors
from the pictures... and even from Oscar the Grouch who turns white and not-so-grumpy. Of course,
everything turns all right in the end as the gang learns about friendship, acceptance and sharing.
My nieces had a lot of fun at the show... as did Sarah and I. Both girls were enthralled and entertained by the antics of the Sesame Street gang (although Abby was occasionally overwhelmed and clung
tightly to Sarah). Abby was also very protective of her sister when Ernie came over and "borrowed" Becca's coat. "No Ernie!" she demanded, but she offered a polite "Oh, thank you, Ernie" when he returned it.
As if the energy of the show wasn't enough to have us dancing in our seats, we all also enjoyed a big ol' sugary cup of snocone!
The rainbow of ice colored our tongues a somewhat disturbing color... and Abby managed to wear most of her snocone home.
For so many years, I missed being home and being able to take my nieces to see things like Sesame Street Live (and have an excuse to go myself). It is such a treat to be home again and close to family and be able to share in these special events (as well as the regular, day-to-day events) and be a part of my nieces' growing up.
