Adopting Smokey
Our two mini dachshunds: Smokey & Vienna At Pet Shenanigans, we have two performing mini dachshunds: Smokey and Vienna. Dachshunds are notorious for having very fragile backs, and, unfortunately, Smokey became the victim of a back injury. She developed a herniated disc in her spine which paralyzed her back legs.

Sarah and I drove her to a specialist in Richmond, Virginia, who performed surgery on her spine. He predicted that Smokey would have at least an 85% chance of full recovery.

Smokey's shaved back following surgery Once she returned to us following her surgery, just as adorable as ever even with her post-surgery shaved back, she immediately seemed to be her old self again. She already was able to use her back legs again, and she was full of personality and energy just like she always used to be.

Smokey in her kennel Within days, Smokey was trying to run around and play and get into everything. Her recovery was going wonderfully, but we had to keep a close eye on her and limit her movement to prevent her from doing additional injury to herself.

Tadah! Sarah has always wanted a mini dachshund, and here was our chance to bring home a wonderful, personable mini dachshund that we already knew and loved. Without a second thought, we knew that Smokey was going to be coming home with us and joining our family. Smokey! When we move to Columbus just before Thanksgiving, Smokey will be making the journey with us. We are so excited to have her and to have her share our lives with us!
