Life With Smokey
Smokey and her Dad We have had our miniature dachshund, Smokey, for about a month and a half now... and it is hard to imagine life without her. Her personality has brought us such joy and laughter. She has become part of our routine, and we can't remember a time when she wasn't a part of our life.

Smokey makes herself at home We were unsure what Smokey would be like as a house pet since she had spent all of her life thus far as a show dog. But she has been an angel! She adapted effortlessly to life as a pampered pet.

Napping with her Mom She sleeps peacefully through the night under the covers with us, waits until we take her outside to use the bathroom, peacefully entertains herself when we are busy with other things and generally stays out of trouble.

Showering Daddy with kisses Best of all, she loves her Mom and Dad. She is such an affectionate dog, and nothing makes her happier than to be sitting on one of our chests, lavishing us with doggy kisses!

Content on Daddy's belly Smokey joining our household was a new adjustment for our three cats: Monkey, Maccabee and Moxie. Each cat has responded differently to Smokey's presence. Moxie could care less Monkey tolerates Smokey and behaves as if nothing in her life has changed. Mackie is very curious about Smokey. And Monkey (our first cat who isn't too fond of Moxie or Mackie's presence in her life to begin with) gives Smokey dirty looks and eyes her warily. But they all tolerate each other and manage to live their lives side-by-side.

Smokey discovers snow Smokey had to make some new adjustments and discoveries as well... like snow! Having previously been in California and Virginia, she had never seen snow before. She wasn't too sure about it at first, especially being a tiny little dog and particularly close to the ground. But with her pretty pink winter coat, she seems to have adapted fairly well to the cold white stuff on the ground.

Smokey finally grows some fur! Smokey has also healed very well. It has been about two and a half months since she had back surgery to repair herniated and calcified discs, and she is running about as if nothing had ever happened. The only indication that she'd ever had surgery is her naked back which has only The one and only Smokey! started to grow hair back in earnest in the last couple of weeks... finally!

Smokey is a welcome addition to our family, and we wouldn't trade her for anything. She fills our lives with laughter, love... and licks!
